The word Diadora comes from the greek διὰ δωρέα “dia-dorea” Which means “to share gifts and honours”.
Quality and workmanship have been hallmarks for the Diadora tennis brand from the days of Borg, Vilas, and Cash in the 70’s and 80’s, Becker, Courier and Kuerten in the 90’s and 00’s, through today. For the discerning tennis player looking for a brand based on heritage and its use of high end materials, great colors and comfort, look no further than Diadora. (have pics of Borg, Vilas, Courier, and Kuerten saved in Diadora shoe folder.)
The Speed Star K model makes use of kangaroo leather for softness, comfort and sensitivity. Use of this material is more common in soccer, but lends itself well to the rigors of tennis, offering a supple, custom feeling fit to the upper. Double Action 2 and Axeler Heel Propulsion further add to the technology features of the Diadora Speed Star. Axeler Heel Propulsion is made from Pebax, a highly elastic memory material. Thanks to a specially contoured insert the Axeler Heel Propulsion ensures maximum shock absorption during impact with the ground. A 2015 Tennis Magazine top pick!
The Speed Pro EVO offers a lightweight option with excellent breathability thanks to the use of Supreltech Air mesh and Dia Shield. Socklike fit with unitongue construction. Also continues the use of Double Action 2 cushioning and Axeler Heel Propulsion. Incredible comfort with a great splash of color! Also highly rated in the 2015 Tennis Magazine shoe ratings issue!
In addition to the latest styles of Diadora, Midwest Sports offers a great selection of past generation models at discount prices. While supplies last!
For decades, New Balance decided against endorsing major professional athletes. The Boston based company, which is the only athletic shoe company that manufactures their footwear in the U.S., decided years ago that they would just sign runners to smaller contracts, and would not even feature those runners in any advertisements.
Well, the times caught up to New Balance, and in 2009, New Balance decided that they would jump into the endorsement game and start representing professional athletes. The one stipulation with these potential clients of New Balance was that the athletes would have to commit time and effort towards a charity of their choice. In return, New Balance would provide financial backing towards that particular charity.
New Balance started representing Major League Baseball players, now over 350 players of the league wear New Balance cleats. Shortly after diving into professional baseball, New Balance decided that they would embark on the sport of tennis.
On January 3rd, 2013, New Balance announced that they would sign then 21-year-old, Canadian Tennis player, Milos Raonic to a multi-year contract to become the face of New Balance tennis. Raonic now in his 2nd year with New Balance, is very involved with the inspiration aspect of the shoes & apparel in which Raonic wears on the court.
Diving deeper into the gear worn on court by Raonic, the 6th ranked player on the ATP circuit wears New Balance’s new shoe, the 996v2 tennis shoe. This shoe is the ideal volley between form & function. Raonic’s shoe of choice offers supreme flexibility to go along with lightweight durability. This top-flight tennis shoe will help keep you fast and stable during and after a match.

Maria Sharapova has reached her third straight finals at Roland Garros after defeating 20 year old Canadian, Genie Bouchard, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Sharapova has won 19 of her last 20 matches at Roland Garros, her only loss came at the hands of Serena Williams in the finals last year. Sharapova is trying to relive some of the magic she found in 2012, after she marched through the field at Roland Garros & achieved the allusive career grand slam (wins at all of the major tournaments) and first title at the French Open. Sharapova won the title in 2012 after defeating the crowd favorite & one of France’s own, Sara Errani, 6-3, 6-2.
Sharapova’s road to the finals this year drew clear after the World No. 1 & defending French Open Champion, Serena Williams, was upset in the 2nd round. Before the tournament started, many fans had penciled in a Williams vs. Sharapova quarterfinals matchup. That potential matchup could have been a gigantic hurtle to overcome for Sharapova, who is winless versus Williams since 2004 and holds a 2-16 career record against Serena.
The match between Sharapova and Bouchard for a chance at a finals berth was a clear example of Sharapova’s clay dominance. Sharapova has proved to be the “Queen of Clay” over the past 3 years, partly due to her charm and grace on and off the court, but particularity due to the impressive 53-4 record Sharapova holds on clay since 2010. Sharapova took her normal, not necessarily good, “slow start” approach to this match, dropping the first 6-4 to Bouchard. Sharapova battled back resiliently in the next two sets, fight off the 20 year old, 7-5 in a well contested 2nd set. In the 3rd set, Sharapova started to mix in her proven experience at grand slams to go along with her overall talent on the clay surface, asserting her dominance over the future star from Canada, 6-2 in the 3rd.
Sharapova will take on 22 year old & soon to be World No. 3, Romanian, Simona Halep in the finals on Saturday. Sharapova holds a 3-0 record versus Halep. These two last met in the finals of Madrid Open in early May in which Sharapova won 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Tennis’ newest rising star, Simona Halep, reached her first career Grand Slam semifinal after beating Svetlena Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-2. Halep, the 4th ranked player in the world, has been dominant at Roland Garros, not dropping a set this tournament.
After a 3 hour rain delay, the 22 year old Halep, put all of the nerves and pressure aside and just played her game. That game of hers, has been one of the best games during the 2014 season. Halep ripped forehand after forehand, wearing Kuznetsova down. Halep has become a force on tour & fashionable on the court as well. During her match versus Kuznetsova, Halep gave us a fresh look in her glow orange adidas tank with a tribe purple skirt with bright orange under shorts.
Genie Bouchard has emerged as one of tennis’ next stars. She not only brings a sense of youth to a sport in search of a future star, but through her sponsor, Nike, Bouchard brings a great sense of style to the court. During the 2014 French Open, Bouchard has powered her way to a semifinals appearance where she will face Maria Sharapova. Bouchard, ranked 16th in the world, has now advanced to her second career Grand Slam semifinal.
The 20 year old Canadian, models some of her game after Maria Sharapova, fittingly, her outfit is from the Nike “Maria” Collection. The Nike Premier Maria Tank features a supportive built in bra in a fun contrast color, with a perforated mesh back for ultimate breathability. This top while being fitted in the bust has a body skimming aesthetic on the torso which is comfortable while playing in the summer months!
This tank is available in 3 fashionable colors; lilac, geranium and the go-to white! The Nike Maria Athlete Tank is also available in junior sizes! It can be purchased at your favorite tennis shop Midwest Sports!
